Ligamentous Restraints of the Second Tarsometatarsal Joint: omeiehanical Evaluation
نویسنده
چکیده
Ligamentous injury of the tarsometatarsal joint complex 1s an uncommon, but disabling condition that frequently oeeurs In elite athlegs. There are few options for managing these injuries, in part because the relative mechanical contribution of the ligaments af the tarsomcJtatars'sal joint is unknown, complicating decisions regarding which ligaments need reconstruction. In the current study, strength and stiffness of the dorsal, plantax, and Lisfranc ligaments of 20 paired cadaver feet were measured and compared. The plantar and Lisfritnc ligaments were significantly stiffer and stronger than the dorssak ligament, and the Lidranc ligament was significantly stronger and stiffer than the p!ant,ar figament. متن کاملTarsometatarsal joint injuries--review of clinical presentation and surgical treatment.
The tarsometatarsal (Lisfranc) joint suffers a spectrum of injuries ranging from solely ligamentous injury to fracture dislocation. The authors evaluated eighteen consecutive patients who underwent surgery for tarsometatarsal joint injuries, utilising 4.5 mm cancellous screws and 1.6 mm K-wires. The outcome of function and anatomical reduction were assessed by AOFAS (American Orthopedic Foot an...
متن کاملA Case Report of Floating Metatarsal: Concomitant Dislocation of the Tarsometatarsal and Metatarsophlangeal Joints of the Second Toe
An extremely rare case of floating second metatarsal is reported. The reported case is a young man with simultaneous dislocation of tarsometatarsal and metatarsophalangeal joints of the second metatars following a car accident. Because of patient's discontent for open surgery, blind percutaneus pinning was performed that was not completely successful and in follow up radiography, 18 months late...
متن کاملLisfranc injury: imaging findings for this important but often-missed diagnosis.
The Lisfranc injury is a popular topic in the radiology, orthopedic surgery, and emergency medicine literature, primarily due to the subtleties of the radiographic findings and potentially dire consequences of missed diagnoses. The purpose of this article is to help readers understand the anatomy of the tarsometatarsal joint, identify a systematic approach for the evaluation of the joint, and d...
متن کاملOutcome after open reduction and internal fixation of Lisfranc joint injuries.
BACKGROUND Open reduction and internal fixation has been recommended as the treatment for most unstable injuries of the Lisfranc (tarsometatarsal) joint. It has been thought that purely ligamentous injuries have a poor outcome despite such surgical management. METHODS We performed a retrospective study of patients who underwent open reduction and screw fixation of a Lisfranc injury in a seven...
